Check Word and Character Limits
Check a draft’s length while accounting for the counting rules used by its destination.
Use the interactive tool ↓Read the destination’s rule
A form may limit words, characters, bytes or a platform-specific visible length. Those are different measurements. This counter gives several useful estimates, but it does not know which rule a publisher, application portal or social platform applies.

Check a simple sentence
Paste Hello world. The tool counts two whitespace-separated words and eleven JavaScript string units including the space. Its “no spaces” count removes whitespace, not only the ordinary space character, so the same example gives ten.
Try a second line and watch the paragraph measure. The implementation treats nonempty newline-separated parts as paragraphs; it does not require a blank line between paragraphs. A visually wrapped line created by the browser is different from a newline actually present in the input.
- Paste the exact version you plan to submit.
- Choose the measure relevant to the receiving limit.
- Check spaces and line breaks near a strict boundary.
- Verify the final pasted text in the destination itself.
Understand language and Unicode limits
Words are separated by whitespace. That makes well-known one token, and does not provide language-specific word segmentation for languages written without spaces. It is not a grammatical analysis or a universal editorial word-count standard.
The character counter uses JavaScript string length, measured in UTF-16 code units. An emoji or combined visible character can occupy more than one unit. That number can differ from both visible-character count and UTF-8 byte length. Do not use it to prove a byte-limited API payload is within its limit.
Treat readability estimates as estimates
Reading time assumes 200 words per minute and rounds up to seconds or minutes for display. It does not measure an actual reader’s speed or adjust for technical difficulty. Sentence counting is punctuation-based; abbreviations and a final unpunctuated fragment can affect it.
Troubleshoot disagreements
Check whether the receiving system counts headings, formatting markers, hidden line breaks or pasted rich-text content differently. This utility counts its plain text input, not a rendered document’s layout. Use Text Diff to compare revised drafts, and keep a small margin if an unfamiliar form enforces its own counting convention.
