Count Days Between Dates and Endpoints
Decide whether the final date counts before calculating the number of days between two events.
Use the interactive tool ↓Define what a day count means
Elapsed days measure the distance from one date to another. Inclusive counts include the final date as an additional counted date. A hotel stay, an event roster and an administrative deadline may use different conventions even for the same pair of calendar dates.

Check a short example by hand
From 1 January 2025 to 3 January 2025 there are two elapsed days. With Include end date enabled, there are three counted calendar dates: 1, 2 and 3 January. For the same start and end date, the elapsed count is zero and the inclusive count is one.
- Enter the start and end dates.
- Leave the inclusive option off to measure elapsed days.
- Turn it on only if your task counts both endpoints.
- Copy the result with a note of the endpoint convention.
Interpret calendar months separately
Years and months are calendar units, not fixed multiples of 365 and 30 days. Month-end calculations clamp an anniversary to the last valid day when necessary. For example, counting a calendar month from 31 January in a non-leap year reaches 28 February under that convention.
Whole weeks and remaining days are derived from the total day count. Calendar months answer a different question and should not be multiplied by thirty to reconstruct an exact date interval.
Know how this utility treats order and time
If the dates are reversed, the calculator swaps them and returns a nonnegative interval. It does not label an event as overdue using a negative count. It works with date-only calendar values rather than working-hour schedules, time zones, public holidays or business-day calendars.
For a timestamp with hours or offsets, use Unix Timestamp Converter. An elapsed duration across time zones or a daylight-saving change is a different task from counting calendar dates.
Troubleshoot a one-day difference
Check the inclusive option first. Then verify the dates and the other system’s rule: some periods exclude the first date, others count both dates, and some refer to complete 24-hour intervals. This calculator does not decide which convention a contract or application requires; retain that rule beside your result.
