How to Create and Test a Website QR Code
Use the final HTTPS address, generate the code, download it, then scan the exported version on a separate device. Check the full destination before distributing it.
Use the interactive tool ↓Prepare the destination first
Open the intended page yourself and copy its complete HTTPS address. Check spelling, path, and any required query parameters. Avoid including login tokens, private document access keys, or other sensitive information in a code that will be shared publicly.
A QR code stores data. It does not verify that a destination is trustworthy, remains online, or belongs to the person displaying the code.
Generate and export your code
QR Code Generator
- Replace the sample text with your intended website address.
- Select an output size and error-correction level. A longer address or higher correction level can make the symbol denser.
- Download PNG for a raster image or SVG for scalable artwork.
- Open the exported file and test it before putting it into a design.
Generation runs in your browser. This utility does not create a hosted redirect, manage a campaign, or provide scan analytics. It generates a static QR code containing the text you enter.
Choose PNG or SVG
Starting pointPNG: fixed pixels, useful for screen layouts and simple uploads
What changesSVG: scalable vectors, useful when a design workflow accepts SVG
The preview is a convenient check, but its displayed size is not a print-readiness guarantee. Inspect the exported file at its actual placement size. Do not stretch it unevenly or crop the blank border around the symbol. The export includes a four-module quiet zone on every side, following DENSO WAVE’s QR margin guidance. A module is one small square in the pattern. Keep that border clear of text and graphics in the final layout.
Test the complete workflow
- Scan the downloaded code using a separate phone or another reader. Testing only a browser preview can miss export or placement problems.
- Read the detected address before opening it. Confirm the domain and path are correct.
- Open the page using a normal visitor session. A page that works only while you are signed in may not work for recipients.
- Put the code into the final PDF, image, or print layout and scan that version again.
- Test at the intended distance, size, lighting, and screen or paper surface.
You can also use QR Code Scanner to inspect an image. A successful decode is useful evidence, but does not replace testing the physical item or final distribution format.
When scanning fails
- Try a shorter final URL to reduce density, while retaining the intended destination.
- Increase the physical or displayed size and avoid blurring from repeated raster resizes.
- Keep strong dark-on-light contrast and a clear blank border.
- Remove decorative overlays that obscure the symbol. The generator does not include a logo-placement feature.
- Check the final print or document. A messaging app, editor, or export process may downsample the original image.
Error correction improves tolerance to some damage; it is not a guarantee that a code with arbitrary cropping, overlays, or poor contrast will scan.
Can the address change later?
The generated symbol continues to encode its original data. Toolza does not let you edit that payload after distribution. A website you control can change what it serves at that address, but that is separate from changing the QR code itself.
There is no expiry timer built into the generated symbol. Its usefulness still depends on a reachable, safe destination and a readable copy of the code.
