Estimate FD Maturity and Compounding

Compare deposit interest under explicit rate, tenure and compounding assumptions without treating the projection as a bank quote.

Use the interactive tool ↓

Identify the type of deposit

A cumulative deposit reinvests interest; a periodic-payout deposit pays it out. The calculator models accumulation at the selected compounding frequency. It does not automatically represent a monthly income deposit or reproduce a particular bank’s day-count rules.

Reproduce a one-year example

For an assumed ₹1,00,000 deposit at 8% per year with yearly compounding for one year, maturity is ₹1,08,000 and interest is ₹8,000. Choose yearly compounding explicitly before checking this example.

For quarterly compounding with the same assumed rate and term, the model gives 100000 × (1 + 0.08/4)^4, approximately ₹1,08,243.22. More frequent compounding increases this modeled maturity because interest itself earns interest sooner. The example is not a currently offered deposit rate.

  1. Enter deposit amount and the quoted annual rate.
  2. Enter tenure using years and additional months.
  3. Match the compounding frequency to the deposit terms.
  4. Compare principal, interest and maturity rather than only the largest number.

Understand the calculation boundary

The formula is P × (1 + r/n)^(n×t), where r is the annual rate as a fraction, n is compounds per year and t is years plus months divided by twelve. Fractional periods are modeled mathematically. A bank may use different rules for incomplete quarters or early closure.

The displayed interest is before tax and other deductions. TDS, tax liability, premature-withdrawal penalties, changing renewal rates and extra deposits are not modeled. A nominal balance also does not account for inflation.

Resolve a mismatch with a bank quote

Check whether the rate is nominal or already an effective annual yield. Verify cumulative versus payout terms and the exact start/end dates. Do not add the months field a second time when the years entry already includes a fraction.

Use Compound Interest Calculator for a separate recurring-contribution scenario. For an actual deposit decision, the institution’s written product terms and your applicable tax position control the proceeds.
