Check Income Tax Estimates for AY 2026–27
Inspect the calculator’s explicitly labeled FY 2025–26 (AY 2026–27) estimate rather than assuming it determines tax for every year or income type.
Use the interactive tool ↓Match the year and income scope
This guide covers the tool’s labeled FY 2025–26 (AY 2026–27) model. Publication in October 2026 does not turn it into a current-year filing service. Use the financial/assessment year applicable to your income and verify later legal changes separately.
The model estimates resident-individual tax on regular income under its selected old or new regime. It does not prepare a return or handle every capital-gain, special-rate, residency or deduction case.

Assumptions · FY 2025-26 (AY 2026-27)
- New regime: standard deduction ₹75,000; full rebate u/s 87A up to ₹60,000 for taxable income ≤ ₹12,00,000, with marginal relief just above it.
- Old regime: standard deduction ₹50,000; rebate u/s 87A up to ₹12,500 for taxable income ≤ ₹5,00,000. Basic exemption varies by age.
- Surcharge (10%/15%/25%/37%) with marginal relief above ₹50L; 4% health & education cess on tax + surcharge.
- Estimate for resident individuals on regular income. Excludes capital gains, special-rate income and employer-specific perks. Not tax advice.
Follow gross income through to taxable income
For a salaried resident with hypothetical gross regular income of ₹12,00,000 under the modeled new regime, the ₹75,000 standard deduction gives taxable income of ₹11,25,000. Slab tax is ₹52,500 before the modeled rebate. The rebate reduces that ordinary-income tax to zero in this example.
Do not confuse ₹12,00,000 gross salary with ₹12,00,000 taxable income. Different gross amounts can produce the same taxable amount after permitted deductions. A deduction reduces the taxable base; a rebate reduces calculated tax. Those are separate stages.
Compare regimes using supported inputs
- Enter annual income and confirm the salaried setting.
- Select the regime and, where relevant, age band.
- Enter supported old-regime deductions without counting the standard deduction twice.
- Inspect taxable income, slab breakup, rebate, surcharge and cess rather than copying only the headline.
The Income Tax Department’s AY 2026–27 salaried guidance provides the year-specific reference. Its eligibility conditions matter: an ordinary-income example does not establish that every receipt qualifies for a rebate or ordinary slab treatment.
Explain differences before relying on the estimate
The implementation rounds taxable income to whole rupees, then rounds the final estimate to rupees. That is not a full statutory return-rounding workflow. Marginal relief can affect amounts near rebate and surcharge thresholds; do not estimate those transitions by applying one flat rate.
Check the year, salary setting, regime, deduction scope and special-rate income if your adviser or filing software gives a different result. TDS already withheld and a final refund/payment are separate questions. Treat the tool as an educational estimate and confirm a filing position against official rules or qualified advice.
