Resize Images Without Distorting Proportions
Choose exact pixel dimensions while deciding whether preserving proportions or matching a rectangular requirement matters more.
Use the interactive tool ↓Separate dimensions from file size
An upload specification may require a width and height in pixels, a maximum number of bytes, or both. This resizer changes dimensions and encoding; it does not automatically target a byte limit. For file-size tuning after a checked resize, use Image Compressor.

Reproduce a proportional resize
Start with a 1600×1200 image. Keep the aspect-ratio lock enabled and set width to 800 pixels. The corresponding height is 600, preserving the 4:3 ratio. In percentage mode, 50% width and height produce the same dimensions for this source.
- Select the supported image and inspect its original dimensions.
- Choose pixel or percentage units.
- Keep proportions locked for a normal photograph.
- Check the preview and reported output dimensions.
- Download the result and inspect that actual file.
Decide whether an exact box permits distortion
With the lock disabled, independently entering 800×800 for a 4:3 photo stretches it into a square. This tool resizes; it does not provide a crop-to-fit control that chooses which part of a photo to remove. If a portal requires an exact portrait crop, prepare the permitted composition in an appropriate editor first.
The resizer can enlarge an image, but more pixels do not reconstruct missing detail. Small text or a face can remain blurry after upscaling. Choose a clearer source when the detail itself is inadequate.
Understand output format and updates
The result is regenerated after a short delay when settings change. Wait for the new result and recheck its dimensions before downloading. Quality applies to JPEG/WebP encoding, not to a lossless PNG quality scale.
Keeping the original format means using that format for a new browser canvas encoding, not preserving the original bytes or metadata. JPEG transparency becomes white; a still-image canvas workflow does not retain animation. Format support and available memory also depend on the browser.
Troubleshoot an unexpected shape or size
Check the selected unit and ratio lock. A value of 50 means fifty pixels in pixel mode and fifty percent in percentage mode. Reset returns dimensions to the original; it does not undo every source-image defect. If the file is dimensionally correct but still exceeds a portal’s byte limit, compare formats and quality separately rather than repeatedly changing a required width.
