Understand SIP Growth and Contribution Timing

Separate money you contribute from hypothetical growth, and check the deposit timing behind a monthly SIP projection.

Use the interactive tool ↓

Establish a contribution baseline

A SIP is a schedule for investing; the schedule does not guarantee a return. Start with the monthly amount you can sustain and the number of months, then examine a range of assumed returns instead of choosing a result you want to reach.

Reproduce a simple scenario

Enter a monthly contribution of ₹1,000, an assumed annual return of 12%, and a one-year term. Total contributions are ₹12,000. This tool divides the annual percentage by twelve and models deposits at the beginning of each month. Its projected value is approximately ₹12,809.33.

At a zero assumed return, the same twelve deposits produce ₹12,000 and no gains. That check is useful when you are unsure whether the contribution amount or investment period was entered correctly.

  1. Record monthly contribution and term before adjusting return.
  2. Try zero, a lower assumed return and a higher assumed return.
  3. Compare the contribution total with the projected gains in each case.
  4. Keep the assumptions beside any copied result.

Why another calculator may disagree

The monthly rate here is annual rate / 12, rather than the monthly rate mathematically equivalent to an effective annual return. Deposits are assumed to occur at the start of each period, so each contribution receives one more month of growth than an end-of-month convention. The investment period is rounded to whole months.

Neither convention establishes what a fund will earn. Market prices fluctuate; actual outcomes can include losses even though this interface accepts nonnegative return assumptions. Taxes, fees, missed contributions and inflation are not deducted from the displayed projection.

Use the result as a scenario

If the total seems too high, check whether you entered years instead of months, or an annual percentage as a monthly percentage. A nominal future balance also has different purchasing power from the same amount today.

Use Step-up SIP Calculator if you intend to increase the contribution annually. Do not compare its larger projected balance with a flat SIP without also comparing the additional money invested.
