Save Correct Page Orientation in a PDF

Save a quarter-turn orientation change into a new PDF rather than only rotating a temporary viewer display.

Use the interactive tool ↓

Distinguish page rotation from straightening a scan

This tool rotates pages by quarter turns: 90 degrees right, 180 degrees, or 90 degrees left. It does not detect a slight scan skew, crop page edges or perform OCR. If text is tilted by three degrees, a quarter-turn rotation is not the same correction as deskewing.

Correct a mixed-orientation document

Suppose a three-page pack has page 2 sideways while pages 1 and 3 are upright. Load the file, choose Specific pages, enter 2, and select the direction that makes page 2 readable. Download the result and verify all three pages.

  1. Count physical PDF positions in the source viewer.
  2. Choose the rotation amount and all-pages or specific-pages scope.
  3. Enter a precise page selection for a mixed document.
  4. Select Rotate & download and reopen the new file.

Rotation is relative to existing rotation

The implementation adds the selected angle to each target page’s existing rotation, modulo a full turn. Two saved 90-degree-right operations are therefore a half turn. To undo a quarter turn, apply the opposite turn rather than assuming every run resets orientation to an absolute portrait state.

The shared selector accepts one-based positions and inclusive ranges. Printed page labels may differ from physical positions. Selected positions are sorted and deduplicated; a range past the end can be clipped, so check the displayed count and avoid oversized ranges.

Check saved behavior in a viewer

A viewer’s own Rotate button may affect only its current display. This utility writes a new PDF whose page rotation is stored in the document. Close and reopen the downloaded file to check that the intended orientation persists.

Visible orientation does not prove that form fields, signatures or other interactive features remain suitable. Verify important features in the receiving viewer, especially when a signed document is involved. Rotation is not proof that an original signature remains valid after a rewrite.

Troubleshoot a wrong-page rotation

Check whether a cover changed the physical page numbering and whether All pages was still selected. Keep the original so you can repeat the operation from a known starting point. For a smaller document, use Extract PDF Pages separately. For searchable text in a scanned pack, evaluate PDF OCR as a different workflow.
